Kieth and Company is a privately owned, for profit, transportation business based in Salinas. The rival to Rail & Spike, Kieth and Co. invests more in advancing technology. As such, their design of locomotive, the Alpha Class, is technologically advanced compared to anything R&S has to offer. Kieth & Co runs more economically, faster, although with higher per passenger and freight per ton costs. Also, the quality of transportation varies more greatly than R&S. However, although their belief in only a single “perfect” design leaves room for tailored efficiency.
